Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month

MAY 2023 | KRM LUNCH & LEARN SERIES

In honor of  Mental Health Awareness Month, Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) is hosting a virtual Lunch & Learn event on Tuesday, May 16th, from 12-12:30 pm. The event will be focused on cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and strategies to promote the recovery, resilience, and mental wellness of refugee newcomers in the community.

The event will be led by the members of KRM’s Mental Health Department, Holly Cunningham, LaToya Brown-Diallo, and Oumie Nyassi. These individuals have extensive experience in the mental health and refugee resettlement fields and have worked tirelessly to ensure that refugees and immigrants receive the support they need to thrive in their new communities.

During the Lunch & Learn event, attendees will learn about the unique mental health needs of refugees and immigrants and how cultural factors can impact mental wellness. The speakers will share their experiences and insights into evidence-based practices and interventions that can support the mental and emotional health of refugees and immigrants.

The event is open to all individuals who would like to attend, and no registration is required. Interested individuals can join the event by using the direct Zoom link that can be found on below.

This Lunch & Learn event is part of KRM’s monthly series that provides an opportunity for individuals to learn, engage, and discuss important issues related to mental health and wellbeing in our diverse communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with mental health professionals and gain a better understanding of how they can support the mental and emotional health of refugees and immigrants in their communities.

If you are keen in learning about mental health and wellness in refugee and immigrant communities, then don’t miss this valuable opportunity. Join us on May 16th for this informative Lunch & Learn event and be a part of the conversation.
