Refugee & Immigrant Day at the Capitol, 2019

Join us for “We the People: Refugee and Immigrant Day at the Capitol” in Frankfort on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Music in the Rotunda
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Rally and Speakers
2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Self-guided advocacy activities, including self-guided tours of the Capitol and (pending) Kentucky Legislature session viewing

WHO:

Organized by a coalition of agencies: Catholic Charities of Louisville, ACLU of Kentucky, Catholic Conference of Kentucky, UFCW Local 227, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Kentucky Refugee Ministries Lexington, Americana Community Center, Inc., International Center of Kentucky, La Casita Center, Doors to Hope, Backside Learning Center, JFCS Louisville, Global Human Project, RefugeeConnect and Navigate Enterprise Center.

WHY:

It is important for elected officials on all levels to be educated about immigration and the refugee resettlement program, as well as the contributions refugees and immigrants make to our state. This also serves as a civic engagement opportunity for all Kentuckians, including newcomers in our state, to learn how to participate in our democracy.

letter-writing and poster-making

On Thursday, February 7th, stop by KRM’s Louisville office between 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. You can write letters to elected officials or get artsy and create posters for the Refugee and Immigrant Day at the Capitol event on February 20th. Even if you cannot attend the rally in Frankfort, you can leave your poster for someone else to take to the event. Learn more in the Facebook event.

advocacy & lobby training with amnesty international

Have you wanted to engage your Legislators and Members of Congress, but aren’t sure where to start? Join this introductory training on lobbying from a human rights perspective. The training will be held at KRM’s Louisville office and facilitated by members of Amnesty International on Tuesday, March 12th, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Learn more in the Facebook event.
