Art Makes Home: An ArtsMatch Opportunity

Fund For The Arts partners with KRM!

KRM has been selected as one of nine Kentucky recipients to participate in Fund for the Arts’ 2019 ArtsMatch program! This spring, community members have the opportunity to bring these ArtsMatch projects to life. ArtsMatch is a matching grant opportunity for cultural providers (individuals, artists, cultural groups, organizations, etc) to reach new audiences and invest in innovation. KRM’s project will be matched, up to $9,250, through matching funds made possible by Fund for the Arts in partnership with LG&E/KU.

what is krm’s artsmatch program?

Art can be a universal language that connects us to our home, our history, and each other. With your support, Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) will bring the “Art Makes Home” project to Louisville!

This initiative will foster artistic collaborations between US-born and internationally-born Louisvillians, focusing on global stories of Louisville’s residents, history, and culture. To honor KRM’s 30 years of refugee resettlement, the art created through “Art Makes Home” will be showcased in 30 distinct locations—both traditional and nontraditional venues—throughout Louisville in 2020.

KRM will collect, curate, and present a multimedia archive of artistic content which will celebrate and share the stories of migration in Louisville over the past 30 years and give a glimpse into our community’s global tapestry. Art will include work from various disciplines – visual, dance, music, videography, photography, multimedia, and more. The 30 exhibition sites will vary and include locations such as immigrant/refugee-owned restaurants and grocery stores, schools, branches of the Louisville Free Public Library, art studios, and performance spaces.

“Art Makes Home” honors Louisville’s multicultural history, increases arts access for those welcomed and served by KRM, brings art to both nontraditional and traditional artistic spaces, and provides opportunities for artists and community members to engage with our city’s global history.
