♦ How can I start volunteering at KRM? We ask that our volunteers go through a Volunteer Application Process. This includes completing a New Volunteer Application and submitting a completed background check, as well as first attending a New Volunteer Orientation. Once these steps are complete, you'll be an "official" KRM volunteer and will be able to serve in various volunteer positions and opportunities.
To get started on this process, first contact the Volunteer Coordinator of the office in which you'd like to volunteer. They'll be able to make sure you're following the correct procedures, have all the necessary forms and can answer any questions you might have. The Louisville and Lexington Volunteer Coordinators can be reached by the contact information above, or through filling out the form below.
♦ What does KRM need
in a volunteer? Our ideal
volunteer possesses patience, understanding, flexibility and cultural
sensitivity.Above all, we need our
volunteers to understand that our first priority is meeting the needs of our
clients.KRM’s overarching goal is for
our clients to become self-sufficient.KRM volunteers support our clients on their journey to self-sufficiency.While this might mean that our current volunteer
opportunities may not always be the most convenient for every type of volunteer,
we appreciate the patience and understanding of all our volunteers and
supporters as we work together to assist our clients.
♦ How much time would I commit to volunteering? Our volunteer opportunities generally fall into two categories – committed, long-term positions or occasional, one-time or "on-call" opportunities. Long-term positions require weekly schedules; an initial commitment of three months is preferred as it provides consistency for both staff and clients. On-call commitments are best for volunteers with limited availability.
Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
